We will do whatever it takes to help you live life as fully as you can

Story

So many people I know have been either directly or indirectly affected by cancer and the challenges it brings into peoples lives. Whilst being there to support friends and family during these hard times, I thought I would get off my backside and couple something I love doing, with something rather challenging, and try to raise some funds for Macmillan Cancer Support services.

My friends and I  (Adam Verne, Jack Rose, Rian Smith) are partaking in the Macmillan Longest Day challepnge, a fundraising golf event where teams of 3 or 4 people play 4 rounds of golf in one day. My friends and I (The PPGA Crusaders) considered our local golf courses, and whilst one is the shortest and flattest we have ever played, the other is one of the longer ones, and by far the hilliest. We have, perhaps foolishly, selected the hilliest one for our challenge. Set on one side of Portsdown hill, Portsmouth Golf Course has very few flat holes, so this will not be easy. We expect to burn over 5000 calories and walk over 20 miles in the process.

Our plan is to tee off at first light on the 19th July, around 5am, and play pretty much solid golf through to sunset around 9pm.We will have to eat and drink on the way round as each round takes around 4 hours, so we think our efforts are worthy of a donation to such a great cause. We will be packing light up balls, so that if we dont quite finish before sunset we can carry on playing in the dark... hopefully they will be one type of ball even I can't lose. ( I wonder if the light remains on under water)

The course clubhouse will be open until 10pm on the day, so if you want to come along and cheers us along, refill our flasks with hot tea, or perhaps something stronger, please feel free to do so.

Please donate whatever you can, and relax knowing that your money will be going to a great cause, and you never know, I may even improve my game in the process.

If we reach our target I vow to wear the 80s Nick Faldo jumper displayed on this site. Others have offered to double donations if I wear it to the office or with cycling shorts.. which I will glady do, but be warned you will see the photgraphic evidence.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
