3 Peaks Challenge · 2 June 2009

ChallengeAid (CA) raises money through sponsored challenges in the UK. None of the money raised is used for admin purposes. With that money we create Schools of Hope in slums in East Africa to allow aspirational children, through education, to escape the cycle of poverty in which they are trapped.

Story

In less than 12 hours, the team set out for what must be one of the most gruelling challenges in Europe. Most of us are full of trepidation ... the others are just scared witless. A few months ago, this seemed like a good idea. In a joint venture between Welsh independent schools Christ College Brecon and Llandovery College, traditionally friendly rivals on the sports field, twenty staff members are scaling the three highest peaks in the UK: Ben Nevis, Scafell and Snowdon. Of course, it has to be harder than that. We're doing it in just 24 hours. Suddenly its imminent and we need all the support we can get.

Do not underestimate the challenge. Ben Nevis alone is a ten-mile climb going from sea level to over 1340 metres. That is achievable, with good levels of fitness ... but then we have to get in a cramped minibus for a few hours (plenty of time for the muscles to seize up) before tackling Scafell, another 8 miles up and down England's highest mountain. With no time for showers, its straight off to Snowdon to conquer Wales' highest peak. Over 13 hours of the 24 will be spent driving.

Joining the team is Tori James, the first Welshwoman and youngest British female to conquer Everest. See http://www.torijames.com for details. Unfortunately, most of the team do not have her experience or levels of fitness!

It is all in a good cause however, raising vital funds for a local charity with global reach - Schoolchildren for Children. Please visit http://www.schoolchildrenforchildren.org/ to find out more about this amazing charity and its work to raise fitness levels and - just as importantly - money for disadvantaged children worldwide.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Schoolchildren for Children gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Think of our blisters. Think of the challenge. Think of our aching calves. Think of the children we will be raising money for. So please sponsor us now!
