We provide free safe reconstructive surgery to children born with cleft lips & palates.

Story

Eidann wants to donate her hair to make someone smile and to help pay for a new smile.

This page is really for Eidann who is 7. She has the most glorious hair  - it has never been cut ( well except for my disastrous attempts at a fringe)!! She would like to donate her hair to be a wig - she is hoping that it will go to a child with cancer.

We want to raise £150 to pay for a new smile through Operation Smile which provides free surgery to repair cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities for children around the globe.

Eidann wants to help children in other countries to get a new smile. Eidann was born with a cleft lip and incomplete palette. She had her first facial repair at 15 and a half weeks. She faces her surgery with a quiet smile and has more to come.

I cant imagine a world where she didn't have her surgery or a world where I couldn't afford to pay for it! That is why operation smile is so important!

As her mother I am so incredibly proud of her, she is beautiful and caring and just an all round lovely person. This is just one more example of this.

Thanks - Llenore & Eidann

UPDATE - 13/10/10

Eidann and I went to visit no10 in Larne - the hairdressers who will cut her hair. It was fun and exciting but also a bit overwhelming but a date is booked for the 27/10/10. I will update the pictures with the new short hair!

update 20/10/10

Since 1982 Operation Smile has changed over 145,000 children’s lives, forever.  Working in over 50 countries providing free reconstructive surgery for children & young adults with facial deformities, predominantly cleft lips and cleft palates.  We have over 5,000 highly skilled medical volunteers and we provide all the equipment, training and surgical supplies to ensure every patient we treat, receives the highest standard of care and on-going aftercare that is needed when correcting facial deformities.

Why do we do it?  Clefts are the 3rd most common birth defect worldwide and it is estimated that every 2½ minutes a child is born with this deformity.  In the UK, a baby with a cleft will have it repaired in the first year of it’s life, however, in the developing world at least 75% of all cases will go untreated and for those who survive, many will live a lifetime of shame and isolation.  Clefts hamper breathing, eating, drinking and speaking and many children do not go to school because they are ridiculed and teased, far reducing their opportunities and development for the future. However, in just 45 minutes and for as little as £150, Operation Smile can change a child's life, forever.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
