Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses – who we continually support and develop – provide life-changing care for families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Story

Ok so it's gonna be hot hot for tomorrow's 76 miler...... Thanks to all those who have donated so far x if you have yet please don't forget I'll update tomorrow with some pics if I have any energy left lol

Hi all last train session done this morning before Sunday's first event. It's not to late for those who haven't sponsored yet...... you know who you are... :-)

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Why am I doing it?

I am raising money for Dementia UK to raise awareness for a charity which does work to support not only the people with dementia but also the families and carers.  Dementia has a public perception of affecting only the elderly & just meaning you forget a few things.  This is not the case as I found out when someone very impotant in my life was affected by this condition.  The impact this condition has can be truly devastating for the sufferer and equally if not more the family and carers who dedicate their lives to maintaining their loved ones quality of life.  These people are true heroes and need all the support they can be given.

What am I doing?

I have very recently taken up cycling as a hobbie and up to now only short rides (less than 20 miles).  To make this a challenge you can all get behind I am going to really stretch myself, forcing 5 weeks of intense training before the 1st event - A 100km sportive competition around South Cheshire.  Followed a week later by a 21km 5,000 feet cycle up the 'Stelvio Pass'.

I will be joined on the 2nd Stage by my Mapei UK collegue Ross Atkinson (a fellow cycling amature equally panicing over the thought of the 'Stelvio Pass').

Both Ross and I are deeply greatful to Mapei for allowing us the opportunity to take part in this event and hopefully raise lots of money.

I will try my best to keep this page updated with pictures of our training progress, so please please give generously :)

Update:

Can't decide what was worse, having to get up at 04:45, eating scrambled egg before 5 as pre workout breakfast or the 44 miles ride..... This training may break me..... Get sponsoring please people I need the motivation lol

Update:

Horse shoes pass ride pencilled in for June 30th! Canal side to Corwen only 30 miles return but that's one big long windy hill!

Update:

Logisitcs for Stelvio sorted - Set off in the Mapei van loaded with the bikes Friday afternoon to tackle afternoon traffic to Folkestone, short tunnel trip to Calais then 1 1/2 trip to overnight stop.

Early rise Saturday for the 9hr slog through France & Switzerland to Bormio Italy.

Sunday - Lets have it :)

Update

Cheshire Cat has now been increased to 76 miles from 62......whoop whoop...#sarcasm :)
