Mencap wants a world where people with a learning disability gain an equal right to choice opportunity and respect. We believe that support for the families and carers of people with a learning disability is vital to achieving our vision

Story

Well guys, this is my biggest challenge to date and I am SO excited to run the London Marathon with Rugby League legend Barrie Mc Dermott @RLBarrieMc10

We have been training together and discussing running, running and more running since January 2103. I'm not a runner, I'm not even that sporty, so to have the coaching support from Barrie is just an amazing bonus for my training. It has also been fab to have the support of the lovely Katie and Ian at Leeds City Council, Sport and Active Lifestyles Service @LeedsActive thanks to them I have managed to get fit enough to train for the London Marathon.

I'm not trying to break any records, or run as fast as Barrie, as long as I get round in one piece, it will be a dream come true!!

As an employee of Mencap from 2000-05 and as a Director for Leeds Mencap 2007-12 I have seen first hand how essential Mencap's services are locally and nationally and how instrumental they are in making positive changes to the lives of people with a learning disability and their families.  Barrie has been a big supporter of Leeds Mencap and the National Mencap, so on behalf of staff many people with a Learning Disability and their families he has helped over the years, I would like to say a massive THANK YOU.

I hope you will help me support this fantastic cause with a donation for Barrie and I and we will be tweeting using @BronaghDaly and @RLBarrie10 how we are getting on! Wish us luck....
