Starting on Friday 8th April at 08:00 I’m attempting to run the Lakes, Meres & Waters – a classic 102-mile route with over 20,000ft of ascent, touching all 27 of the Lakes, Meres and Waters within the Lake District National Park. Hopefully under 30 hours.
The inspiration first came from meeting legendary fellrunner Joss Naylor last year and his amazing book, which was a huge inspiration through injuries at the time. He described the route as 'summat special' and I can't wait to find out why.
Back then I never imagined I could run that far. But then I ran the 74-mile Cumbria Way Ultra, and I’m always curious of what else body and mind can achieve together when you add another marathon. Conquering these battles doesn't give us immunity to the mental health battles either - but we apply the same process. One small step, with the help of others, 'this too shall pass' and we can find a way through. This is why we created Mind Over Mountains in 2020, to restore mental health naturally, providing therapeutic outdoor experiences with professional coaching and counselling support, and a chance to reconnect with nature.
Running my first 100 miler is a personal goal, but I'm continually reminded how lucky I am to have the Lakes on my doorstep, and the opportunity to inspire people along the way. Considering my previous calamities it seemed like a good chance to raise money for Mind Over Mountains and create something that lasts longer than my sore feet!
£10 per mile could fund 26 places for people to attend our day walks with a bursary, supporting those who might otherwise be unable to take part. Please get behind us if you can.
