I’m fundraising this year for the Breast Care Unit at our local West Suffolk Hospital. The reason in brief is because I want to thank them for their amazing care and cleverness whilst diagnosing and treating me for aggressive breast cancer. 

When I got diagnosed in 2012 and needed a place of calm to reflect, I would walk the dogs around the meadows of Sudbury and just be. I would look to the sky and think Really? Is this really happening to me? 

To be fair though, I never got too deep into the fear and worry about what was happening. That may have been my mind just blocking things out, not letting me acknowledge the severity of everything or, more likely, I think it was the incredible support I received from the whole team on the Breast Care Unit. They had the knack of normalising everything, making things light, having a sense of humour and, most importantly, explaining everything in a clear way that left me with no confusion or indecisiveness. They had everything covered, with speed and efficiency, and that meant everything to me and my family at that time. 

I was first seen in the October of 2012, diagnosed in November and was operated on and given the all clear in December. Everything was so smooth and efficient and I couldn’t have asked for better care. I then had 5 months of chemotherapy to ‘mop up any dregs’ for which the Macmillan Unit gave me an equal level of care and professionalism. All in all I can’t fault West Suffolk Hospital which is why, as I’m coming up to my 10th cancerversary, I’m trying to raise some awesome cash for their My WiSH Charity that serves the hospital and other community services in the Suffolk area. 

I have run two fundraising giveaways now which saw an amount of over £1100 being raised. Thank you so much to everyone who donated.

Now, as we enter the months where 10 years ago I started this journey, I am still fundraising and this page can still take donations.
