We have entered a team in the Ben Nevis – Beyond Boundaries Challenge on the 31 May. This is inspired by ex-SAS TV Presenter and engineer of the BBC's Beyond Boundaries series, Ken Hames. He has joined forces with Scope and Capability Scotland, two of the UK's leading disability charities, to lead a small number of teams on a challenging expedition to the top of Britain's highest peak, Ben Nevis, on 31 May 2008.
James, who is a wheelchair user, is leading our team. He will navigate and direct the team up the mountain in what we hope will be the quickest time! Starting at virtually sea level our daunting challenge is get to the summit of Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain (at 1,344 metres - 4,406 ft above sea level), in well under the target time of 5 hours which would be a reasonable time for a casual walker on a good day.
The real mission is to raise funds and raise awareness of the work Scope and Capability Scotland do across the UK to support disabled people to achieve equality. Each team will be helping Scope and Capability Scotland towards their goal of raising an amazing £100,000 from this challenge.
Scope - is the disability organisation in England and Wales whose focus is people with cerebral palsy. Their aim is that disabled people achieve equality: a society in which they are as valued and have the same human and civil rights as everyone else.
Capability Scotland - is one of the leading Scottish disability organisations and has nearly 60 years experience of providing services to disabled people of all ages in Scotland. Aiming for a just Scotland they work with children, adults and families living with disabilities to support them in their everyday lives.
Your support is very much appreciated so please show your generosity and donate whatever you can to help us achieve our team target of more than £10,000!!!
