When the sun goes down the working day ends for millions of people without electricity. At the flick of a switch, lives can be instantly changed with a solar light. SolarAid wants to make real, sustainable change happen.

Story

I decided to do something more challenging this year so I'll be riding solo over 1,000 miles in 3 steps:

UPDATE! Since I've had to shorten the 3rd ride for time reasons, I've added in a half-marathon. See below.

1) London-Brighton Bike Ride, June (60 miles) (UPDATE: completed. Cycled partway back, so actual mileage was 80 miles)

2) London-Cornwall (St. Ives), July (320 miles) (UPDATE: completed. Actual mileage about 380 miles, total so far: 460 miles)

2.5) Run a half-marathon (13 miles) in London on 25th September (UPDATE: completed).

3) Solo bike ride in Spain - details coming soon. (UPDATE - I ran out of time, but will be doing this as soon as the weather allows it!)

I'll be taking photos and blogging as I go, when I'm not cycling, eating or sleeping.

Solar-Aid is a great charity to support. By providing solar equipment to projects in Africa, they enable development while helping to tackle the pollution, climate change and deforestation that normally results from people's need for energy.
