My story

This is a secure website.

For those of you who did not know Sara Jones from Widnes, she was an amazing and beautiful young lady with a bright future ahead of her. Sadly on the 19th of March 2009 she passed away at the age of 18.

Paul Braithwaite and I (Lee Simpson), two of her best friends, decided to organize a challenge/event dedicated to Sara. Both of us will be cycling from London to Paris over a 3 day period, covering 300 miles, which will take place in September this year.

We have been in touch with Sara's Mum and Dad and told them what we had in mind. They loved the idea. We asked them which charity Sara would of liked the money to go to, they said ‘Zoe's Hospice’ in Liverpool. This is a hospice for terminally Ill children under 5 years of age. Some of the money raised will help fund Paul and I to set up the challenge and the balance will go to Zoe's Hospice in memory of Sara. Please help and support Paul and I, even if you did not know Sara. The money is going to an amazing cause. Zoe’s Place is funded entirely from events such as this.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Zoe's place gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

P.S - From a few requests and ideas Paul and I are now going to do the cycle in purple clothes, and our hair will be sprayed purple as it was sara's favourite colour

£57 of the last donation was Sara's last pay packet from bar Reef, which her mum & dad wanted to donate to the event.

A big thanks and congratulations to Sara's sister Steff who bag packed last week with friends and raised £400+.

A Huge thank you to the Anonymous donator who donated £2000!

A message from Sara's mum Debbiee....

Hi, my name is Debbie. I am the heartbroken but incredibly proud mum of Sara.

Lee and Paul have offered to do this fundraising event in memory of Sara.It is a fantastic tribute to her life and I cannot thank them enough. Sara thought alot of Lee and Paul, she thought they were 2 fanastic lads and this is proving to be true by all they are doing for her.

Zoe's Place would have been Sara's chosen charity, as she adored children and her nickname from us was the 'Baby Angel', as they were as good as gold for her. She would have been the most perfect, loving, caring mum.

My only hope is there is a life after death and Sara is living her life somewhere else and that someday I will meet her again. I know Sara would be looking after all of the children, who's parents are still here on earth. Sara was a big kid at heart and would never have changed.

I know the worst pain of all is to lose your child. I live with that pain everyday and will do for the rest of my life. But it is a small price to pay for having 18 fantastic years with Sara and for that privilege of loving her.

Zoe's Place offers respite for the children who are terminally ill or who are going to live a short life.

To wake up everyday to the knowlodge that this could be your child's last day is something these brave parents have to face. The constant care under those conditions must be exhausting and at times too difficult to bare. Zoe's Place is a life-line for those families.
The donations so many have made, Sara included, will help jut a little. I will take comfort that out of the loss of my beautiful Sara has come some good.

I have learnt since losing Sara that there are still many really good people in this world. Some of Sara's friends have been a great comfort to me with their kindness. Even complete strangers have been incredibly kind. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart, and a great big thank you from Sara. She would be overwhelmed by everything that everyone is doing in her memory, and she would be so proud of everybody that is helping make this possible. But most of all Lee and Paul for giving all their precious time and energy.
Love from Debbie, Eammon, Steph, Chris and Sara (our angel) xxx
