‘GET SERIOUS’
Thank you for taking the time to visit our just giving donation page on behalf of Diabetes UKI would just like to provide you with the reason why we have chosen diabetes UK to be the benefactor of this fund raising event. In April 2009 my daughter, Rebecca, age 13 was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, I was totally, as was the rest of my family, naive to what a life changing experience this was going to be for all of us but mainly Rebecca. Like many things in life, unless you are faced with something you never bother looking into the facts.
WHAT IS DIABETES??
ONE PERSON IN THE UK IS DIAGNOSED WITH DIABETES EVERY THREE MINUTES
Type 1 diabetes develops when the insulin-producing cells have been destroyed and the body is unable to produce any insulin. Usually it appears before the age of 40, and especially in childhood. It is treated with insulin either by injection or pump, a healthy diet and regular physical activity.
