Story

THE LONDON HOP - Space Hopping through London to Raise Money for Alex Jones (Step Brother to Sophie & Olly Lambourne)!!

We'll be embarking on an energetic journey - which will no doubt set the bar for a new world record - the London Hop involves a lot of space hoppers, a lot of bounce and a quest to save a young man's life.

As we mount our space hoppers at midday on Sunday 2nd August, we'll bounce a record breaking 2 miles from Speaker's Corner in Hyde Park to HorseGuard's Parade whilst raising awareness and funds for Alex, a young man suffering with a rare tumour, to help him fiight his only hope for survival.

Alex has a rare form of brain tumour - an astrocytoma of an unknown kind.  His doctors have recommended he has proton beam therapy to remove the tumour without causing collateral damage to the rest of his brain.  However there are no facilities in the UK for the provision of proton beam therapy for anything other than eye tumours.  This is despite the fact that about 1400 people a year in the UK would benefit from this type of treatment.

The NHS currently funds about 40 people a year in the UK to go to centres around the world.  Sadly, Alex is not one of these 40 as his tumour is very rare and therefore does not meet the strict guide diagnostic criteria that they have to set.  He has been refered to the cancer centre in Massachusetts general hospital in Boston which is one of the leading centres for Proton Beam therapy.  The cost of his treatment is likely to be over and above £150,000.

After a series of operations between 2001 and 2003 for the removal of tumours from his brain and spine Alex ran 2 London Marathons in 2004 and 2005 raising more than £20,000 for the Brain and Spine Foundation.  NOW HE NEEDS OUR HELP!

For more information please go to Alex's website www.protonbeamalex.com Brainstrust are supporting Alex's fundraising efforts and all money raised will go to Alex's fund directly.
