Dress Down Day - Friday, 15 January
On 12 January a powerful earthquake measuring 7.0 rocked the impoverished Caribbean nation of Haiti, toppling buildings and causing widespread damage and panic.
The London Stock Exchange has chosen Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) to help deliver much needed funds to help Haiti with their disaster relief efforts. Wear jeans tomorrow and donate online to help raise funds. The London Stock Exchange will match all donations made on Friday 15 January.
Background on MSF Haiti Relief Efforts
MSF has three medical centres that were all but destroyed in the earthquake and cannot be used and as a result have set up clinics in tents and treated over 1000 casualties since the earthquake struck.
MSF staff are working flat out to stabilise the condition of the many people who have suffered serious crush injuries and offer what first aid they can for people with more minor injuries. The main concern at the moment from the medical staff in those clinics is that the need for wound treatment and major surgery is overwhelming. One of the teams is moving into the major public hospital in the district of Cite Soleil, where there is an operating theatre in that hospital, which will help to cope with some of those cases.
