Thank you for visiting the Operation LONG ROAD fundraising page.
Operation LONG ROAD is a 3181 mile joint RAF and Metropolitan Police Force trans- American endurance cycle ride. We will be going coast-to-coast in support of the "Help For Heroes" charity.
The team aims, in May 2009, to depart from Santa Monica Pier California and cross the entire continental USA, finishing 46 days later at Ground Zero New York City, covering an average of 90.8 miles a day. The team comprises of 2 cyclist, Warrant Officer Nick Styles and myself, plus 3 support staff, Mr Roy Hunte, team physio, PC Peter Taylor, team administrator, Mr Andrew Jones, team mechanic.
Why would we do this? Now that is simple, for the Help for Heroes charity. This charity was founded to support casualties of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan . They are trying to raise £6million for a new swimming pool and gym for the armed forces rehabilitation center at Headley Court inSurrey. As a British casualty myself the care for our casualties is a subject very dear to my heart. Now I can no longer contribute on the battlefield, I, and the rest of the team have turned our energies to supporting those who can.
We would just like to take this opportunity to thank you for joining us in helping those who help us. A great man once stood up in our nation’s darkest hour and said something that I think is as relevant today as it was then:
“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”
Sir Winston Churchill.
Thank you – Jason Lewis MBE – 51 Sqn RAF Regiment
