Story

Three Peaks Challenge - 24 Hours over 18th/19th July 2010

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

It’s all adventure and endurance our Lookers Land Rover team at Park Royal. Business Manager Barry Palmer and Sales Executive Matthew Gurney will swap their brogues for boots and their pens for walking poles on 18th July to take on Britain’s three highest mountains in the grueling 3 Peaks Challenge.

The trekking duo will be attempting to scale Ben Nevis, Snowden and in only 24 hours, all in the name of charity. The Lookers Land Rover team will be raising funds for the Shooting Star Children's Hospice in Hampton Middlesex.

General Sales Manager James Tayler and Marketing Manager Nick Head will oversee the boys and keep their spirits up by driving them between the mountains and making sure there’s plenty of ‘carbs’ on hand at the end of each hike! The team is confident that their Land Rover expertise from the showroom will help them on the mountains as they tackle the miles of rugged terrain.

The National Three Peaks Challenge is a mountain-endurance challenge in with a history of over 40 years, in which participants attempt to climb the highest peaks of each of the island's three countries. The challenge has no official rules or time restrictions, but our guys will be doing all they can to crack the magic number and complete it within 24 hours.

The mountains climbed, in order of elevation, are Ben Nevis in Western Scotland 1,344 metres (4,409 ft), Snowden in North Wales, 1,085 metres (3,560 ft), and in North-Western England, 978 metres (3,209 ft). In total the challenge involves a sickening 26 miles of ascent and descent, with total distance of travel approaching 475 miles, which is more than a return trip from London to Paris! We wish the team lots of luck in completing all three peaks in 24 hours and raising lots of money for the Shooting Star Hospice.

A little bit about the Hospice:

The Shooting Star Children's Hospice offers children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families supportive care to enhance their quality of life, by providing a happy, safe and loving environment.  Working in partnership with families they ensure that the children and young people are able to maximise their physical, emotional, intellectual and social potential.

The hospice also provides short breaks (respite) and palliative care in a 'home from home' environment for children and young people with life-limiting conditions, whilst supporting their families in their own homes, in the community and at the hospice.
