My personal message:

18/09/2006

In November of this year, I  should have been embarking upon a trip of a life-time to the south island of New Zealand with my friend Emma. Unfortunately I did not  manage to raise the 80% requirement,  Sadly, therefore I have had to change my event to something more to the amount that I have collected up to date "Walk New York" 10th November 2006.  This also means that I will now not be trekking   alongside my friend Emma.  Sorry Emma!!!

Yes Emma, it was my idea!!

Emma and I met around 3 years ago when she joined my our local 4-part harmony ladies group, "Heartbeat Chorus".    I was a founder member of the chorus and according to Emma, took her under my wing, if you can do that with someone 1ft taller than yourself.  Although we both share a mutal interest in singing I'm afraid that is where our mutal interests end.  I have never really been one for the outdoors, sports or exercise, it's usually just to the car.  This year I have decided that I would like to do something for charity and get myself out and about.  So I applied for the trek,  although I have now had to change location of  walk due to amount raised so far.

To enable me  to complete the walk I need to raise £1300.  I would be really grateful if you could see you way to supporting the charity and myself. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

If you'd like to make a donation towards Emma's target please go to www.justgiving.com/emmashanks

A little bit about The Children's Society:
The Society is the fourth largest children's charity in the UK, with over 100 projects throughout England and Wales. The Society works with some of the country's most vulnerable children and young people: on the streets, in communities, in schools, with families and in prisons. It aims to be a positive force for change wherever young lives are damaged by unnecessary suffering and injustice. The sponsorship we raise will help in a variety of ways; e.g. £10 pays for two 'Stick with It' packs for children who are having difficulty coping at school, £15 pays for a disabled child to visit the seaside in a specially equipped vehicle, £50 pays for a project worker to spend 3 hours giving practical help to a young refugee and £1000 would fund group work with 10 children coping with the trauma of looking after parents who abuse drugs or alcohol.

So thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Children's Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.
