Story

18th November 2010 I was en route to Milan to visit family,a short break in a beautiful city and amazing shops life couldnt be better, however, it was there, I was taken ill with flu-like symptoms and, although it was a brilliant few days i just didnt feel right.
as the dys went on, I couldn't get well and returned home on November 22nd becoming increasingly sick. I never went back to work and on December 1st i was finally admitted to hospital.
By then i had lost a vast amount of weight  and my doctors were baffled and began running tests for intestinal infections such as salmonella and other diseases as malaria and  TB.  Of course, the reality was that  I had developed ovarian cancer.
I was diagnosed just in time for what I then imagined would be my last Christmas, with two tumours: one the size of an orange, and the other one the size of a deflated rugby ball. i thought if im going to die i wanted everyone not to feel bad or pitty me so i held back on telling them apart from my amazing sister.

I was transferred to a specialist hospital and assigned my own nurse. I had an immediate radical hysterectomy and follow up treatment. Things were bleak. During my early days in hospital my nephew even brought my two dogs to the hospital so I could see them through the window, as i was too ill for anything else.
Cancer is about life and death, but cancer is also about pain, loneliness, losing your hair, worrying about money and making sure your family is okay with everything that is going on. Macmillan were always there for me in those moments. They couldn't save my life, but they saved my sanity. They do this for other people every day.

I am now living life after cancer. I am back at work. Back doing most of lthe things I always loved to do before. Macmillan have been my touchstone, always at the end of the phone line when i needed them most.

If you can and want to give money to a truly worthy cause, please give to Macmillan. And thank you. You will be helping someone like me.
