Thanks for visiting my Kenyan fundraising page!
This summer me and three others are volunteering for Challenge Africa, a small charity set up by three Birmingham University graduates. (http://students.bugs.bham.ac.uk/intervol) This charity is primarily involved with developing and providing sustainable devlopment projects and has improved social education in 2 villages, focusing on sexual education and health. It teaches women new skills rather then relying on the dangerous sex trade.
There are currently 40 million people infected with HIV and approximately 28.2 million of those infected, reside in sub-saharan Africa. Every day 16 000 women are infected with HIV and promoting social education will prevent this number from increasing.
This volunteering project is associated with the InterVol society at the University of Birmingham, which involves volunteering in a small, rural village in western Kenya for a 6 week project. More information can be found at http://students.bugs.bham.ac.uk/intervol The main aim of the project is to assist with constuction of buildings and to help with the social problems associated with HIV/AIDS.
The money raised will contribute towards much-needed construction materials in the village. Each member of the group each aims to raise a combined effort of £1000, so any donations will be much appreciated. All donations go directly to the charity and living costs including food, accommodation will be paid by the volunteers.
oh and don't forget...........
Donating through Justgiving is really quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Challenge Africa gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. so don't forget to indicate whether you're a taxpayer!!!
I really appreciate any support no matter how small. Thanks, Louise.
