It is with extreme sadness we heard that our Animal Care Manager, Nikki Coles, passed away suddenly on Friday 6th April. Nikki worked with ACT for 9 years, in that time helping hundreds of young people achieve their qualifications, find work or encourage them into further study. She was a fantastic tutor, colleague and friend to all at ACT, having touched so many lives, she will be sorely missed. When Nikki first started at ACT she was keen to develop a Pets Corner, but as we only had a small office, could only persuade the Managing Director into having a fish tank in reception! Since the opening of our Cardiff Skills Academy, in 2007, where Nikki was based, Nikki developed the "ACT Animal Ark" with over 20 different species of animals that are cared for by the learners. Nikki developed a team of 3 staff, who all share her passion of seeing the best in people and having such a generous and caring nature. The respect and admiration that Nikki had from her colleagues and learners was unique. She achieved so much, with only the welfare of the learners and animals at the heart of everything she did. The route will continue to flourish in the capable hands of Amelia Waring, Rhian Evans and Support Worker Laura Williams, who will continue to fight your corner Nikki until we get an ACT Zoo! Nikki has 3 wonderful children and husband, who are all so proud of what she has achieved. She was a fantastic mum and wife and her family meant everything to her. Nikki's funeral service will take place on Monday 23rd April at 11.30am, at St Francis Church, Ely. She did not want people to dress solely in dark colours, but wants a flash of colour such as a tie, shirt, scarf, jewellery etc. Nikki's wishes were for donations to be made to the charity Four Paws, in her memory.
