The RAF Benevolent Fund is the RAF's leading welfare charity. We have been there for all members of the RAF Family for over 100 years. Last year we assisted more than 70,000 members of the RAF Family. Support us in 2025 and help us reach even more members of the RAF Family.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund are the RAF's leading welfare charity providing practical, financial and - in some cases - emotional support to all members of the RAF, from childhood through to old age. They can help with issues from childcare and relationship difficulties to injury and disability, and from financial hardship and debt to illness and bereavement. They support all members of the RAF Family, including the Air Training Corps, when needs arise.

To raise funds for this amazing charity, a team of cadets and staff from 211 (Newbury) Squadron Air Cadets are working together to undertake Wainwrights' famous Coast to Coast walk. Created by Alfred Wainwright, the Coast to Coast Walk runs for approx 192 miles across the North of England from the Irish Sea at St Bees to the North Sea at Robin Hoods Bay. The route passes through some of the most beautiful and varied scenery in the country: the rugged mountains and beautiful lakes of the Lake District, the rolling hills and pretty valleys of the Yorkshire Dales and the expansive heather moorland of the North York Moors, with some dramatic coastal scenery at each end.

To make this a real challenge, the target is to complete the 192 mile (307km) route in just 7 days! That's an average of over 27 miles a day over some of the most beautiful but also mountainous areas in England.
