Please take just a couple of minutes to read my reasons behind climbing Kili and how the money raised for Practical Action will directly go to practically helping the world's poor:

In September 2014 I am undertaking a challenge to support the fight against world poverty, by attempting to summit the 'Rooftop of Africa', Mount Kilimanjaro.
At 19,340ft (5,895m), Mt Kili is the tallest mountain on the African continent and the highest free standing mountain in the world!

I have taken on this challenge in order to support Practical Action. Having travelled to remote locations in Africa and Latin America I have seen, first-hand, how the world’s poorest live. On my most recent trip to Eastern Africa, a poignant image of a very young boy has been ingrained in my mind. He wore dirty shorts, no shoes and a man’s old, large and tattered jacket, because that is all he had. He wandered alone and the sadness on his face was enough to make me want to make even a small difference.
Having witnessed the extreme poverty in which these people live, it had a serious impact on me, making it clear how impoverished these people are. We take so much for granted and it is distressing how little they have in comparison.

We all know the importance of technology in developing our lives. However, for the world’s poor, technology is the most important thing to enable them to be alleviated from poverty. This is why Practical Action is such a fantastic charity. Many communities around the world are desperate for even basic survival requirements, such as water, food and energy. Practical Action develops practical and realistic solutions to help these people overcome poverty by using technology to allow access to:
-Energy;
-Water and sanitation;
-Food and agriculture;
-Disaster risk reduction.  
These basic human needs are what different communities require in order to have the capacity to cope with day to day living.

Now, this is where YOU come in! Without donations from people like you, the world’s poor would still be completely unable to develop. Not only will you be donating to a fantastic cause which helps poor people all over the world, but in the meantime you are raising valuable awareness.
