About me

Hi, I’m running in the Virgin London Marathon on 25 April 2010 in aid of World Horse Welfare (previously known as the ILPH). World Horse Welfare campaigns on many issues, both here in the UK and overseas. The one I am really keen to support is the Make A Noise campaign, aiming to end the transportation of live horses for slaughter in Europe.  100,000 horses a year are transported on inhumanely long distances for slaughter, many of them are totally unfit to travel and travel regulations are often broken.  Please help me help World Horse Welfare put an end to this cruel trade.

As you can see from my pictures, I have my own horse and would be distraught to even contemplate this happening to her. Some of you may not be animal lovers like myself but just take a moment to think about the pain and distress they can and do go through and so this is why I would greatly appreciate it if you could spare some money and sponsor me, even the smallest amount will help!

About World Horse Welfare

WHW are an international charity dedicated to caring for horses. You can find out more about the charity and what they do at: http://www.worldhorsewelfare.org/home

How World horse Welfare help horses today

Every day, there are hundreds of horses around the world that urgently need our help, which the charity aims to provide.

In Britain, the charity help horses today by rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses. In Mexico, they help horses today by providing veterinary care using specialist treatment teams. Through WHW association with the WSPA Disaster Alliance, they have the ability to provide emergency relief when natural disasters threaten horses in the countries where they work.

How World horse Welfare help horses tomorrow

World Horse Welfare is making huge inroads into helping horses today, but while it's vital to stop their suffering, the charity is equally dedicated to preventing the suffering of horses tomorrow.

We do this in a number of ways, including campaigning to improve legislation that protects horse welfare. This can cover anything from horses in private livery yards in the UK to those travelling to slaughter on the roads of Europe.

The charity also takes an active involvement in educating horseowners about best horsecare practice in the UK and runs a number of training programmes in developing countries, which ensure that working horses are cared for.

We attend a number of equestrian events, where you can ask us a question or make a donation. We also hold Right Weight Roadshows, where we offer advice and guidance on the best weight for your horse.

We do all of this because we are focused on changing practices and attitudes, and therefore treating the root causes of horse welfare issues around the world.

You can help us to help the horses of tomorrow.

Long-distance transportation to slaughter

Injury, dehydration, disease and exhaustion - as well as the untold stress faced by the 100,000 horses travelling long-distances to slaughter across Europe each year - is a regular, needless occurrence. We are striving to end this cruel and unnecessary practice.

Ending the long-distance transportation of horses to slaughter was World Horse Welfare's founding cause, back in 1927. The trade is still very much alive in Europe today - therefore, stopping the suffering caused by this practice remains our campaigning focus, through our Make a Noise campaign.
