Hiya all,

I'm doing the London Marathon...erm, tomorrow!!

I was always dubious about running it - due to an old knee injury from climbing.  So, I have gained permission from the organisers, to walk it....dragging a couple of old tyres behind me.

Why?  Well, I thought dragging one tyre would be enough of a challenge for someone in my position and so put up the idea to my friends.  After an ear bashing saying why it was a stupid idea, how I hadn't put enough thought into it and how I would die, or get maimed etc, I sat down and seriously thought about it for a while.  They were right.  Dragging a tyre was stupid.  So, I decided to make it two tyres instead...if I'm not dancing with a heart attack then I'm not trying hard enough!

I'm aiming for 9 hours (8 if it were all down hill) but realistically 10 hours is more likely.  I will not give in!

This is similar to long polar expeditions and how they drag pulkas across the snow in arctic/antarctic conditions - just mine are a couple of old tyres that I've sprused up a little with pretty colours and a donations bucket (for notes and credit cards of course).  My only worry is that there won't be enough ice-cream vans en route.

My chosen charity is www.meru.org.uk.  MERU is a charity that exists to improve life for children and young people with disabilities. They do this by designing and custom-making specialist equipment for use at home, at school or college, in hospital or at play. They are here to help when no ready made solution exists to meet a child or young person’s needs.

I know this is rather late for setting up but it wasn't until just over two weeks ago that I finally got the OK from Virgin London Marathon to go ahead with the tires.  So yes, it is rushed.

Please sponsor me...it really doesn't matter how much, but pledge some dosh.  More for the fun of seeing me on national TV, keel over from heat exhaustion/collapsed lung/broken back/angina attack/myocardial infarction....that's got to be worth some cash!

Thanks guys.....also, on the day, not only should I be at the very back - but I'll have a bucket in one of the tires which I hope folk will make on-the-spot donations (peferably notes!).

Love light and peace

Luke Collyer
