Story

On 23rd June 2016 at 37weeks pregnant our baby got themselves into a little bit of trouble and so My wife (Emma) had to have an emergency c section, that in itself was pretty traumatic! Our beautiful baby boy was born at 14.38 weighing in at 5lb 11oz and he had the cord wrapped around his neck and wasn’t breathing, thankfully once the cord was unwrapped and with a little encouragement he let out a cry! We finally had our baby boy and he was placed into my arms! We went into recovery not long after and finally Emma was able to hold our beautiful harry Denis it was the most beautiful wonderful feeling in the world and in that moment there was peace just the three of us!

Unfortunately it didn’t last long as whilst i went out to tell everyone who had been waiting all family members, that both mommy and baby were fine and that we had a boy, in recovery it wasn’t going so well, my mother in law was fortunately by Emma’s side and our baby boy turned blue and had stopped breathing! An emergency cord was pulled and just like that he was taken from both me and Emma! He was having seizures continuously and he stopped breathing and had to be revived 4 times, at this moment they didn’t know what was happening and didn’t know why it was happening they were just trying to keep him stable! They thankfully managed to get him stable enough to start carrying out tests to find out what had happened and stable enough to move him over to another hospital with better facilities and care for newborn baby’s.

Brain scans brain monitor heart ultra sounds X-rays mri scans lumbar puncture the list goes on aswell as daily blood tests Iv antibiotics ventilator oxygen feeding tube, he was barely hours old and had to endure all of this but thank god for the nhs! Finally we got some answers our beautiful baby boy had had a STROKE!!!

We were so oblivious and in shock we didn’t even know that this was possible in a baby but it was and is! Harry had had a stroke caused by a blood clot on his brain, why did he have the clot? We don’t know the professionals don’t know and don’t even know when the stroke actually occurred whether it was before being born during or after all they know is that it happened and the reason was a blood clot! After many tests a lot of waiting ups downs tears sleepless nights/weeks our boy was a fighter and went from strength to strength and finally was allowed to come home!

Harry is 2 now and is the most wonderful little boy, such a happy little soul and such a character. We have to attend regular hospital appointments due to harry having the stroke he remains under the consultant and he has a lot of Physio therapy as the stroke left him with a weakness in his right arm and leg, his leg isn’t so bad it’s more of a limp but his arm has very limited use but the Physio therapy is wonderful and helps him a lot. Harry also has to have walking aids, he’s had Pedro (special boots) to aid his walking and is currently using a splint to try to improve his walking.

The outcome of the stroke could have been a lot worse so the fact that he’s only limited on one side is just a blessing and Harry’s amazing he’s adapted to only using his left arm and figures out his own way of doing things and he try’s so hard to use the other arm, he’s such a determined little boy!

To look at him now you would never know how poorly he was when he was born.
Our beautiful brave boy Harry Denis xxx
