Story
UPDATE: I managed to complete about about 25 out of the 35 miles. The weather was very hot and humid with no wind so it was difficult to remain hydrated enough. After 20 miles I was exhausted and there also looked to be a risk of thunderstorms devloping so I decided to stop. I'm very grateful to everybody that has sponsored me though as I've manged to raise over £1000 for cancer research!
In June I'm going to walk a route called the “Welsh 3000's” and hopefully do it in less than 24hrs. The walk will summit all 15 peaks in that are over 3,000 ft high and will cover a total distance of 35 miles. The cumulative height gain will be nearly 13,000 ft (4000m) so almost half of Everest in a single day!
I plan to sleep on the summit of Snowdon and set off at first light (about 5am). From there it's down over Grib Goch to the Llanberis Pass and then back up onto the Glyder range which includes the summit of Tryfan. Once back down into the Ogwen valley it’ll be the start of the final and longest section of the day, which includes all the Carnedd peaks. I'm hoping to be finished before dark but I'll be prepared to walk well into the night if needs be!
I've wanted to have a go at this challenge for a while, and thought it'd be a great opportunity to raise some money for cancer research at the same time. Cancer research is a charity close to my heart after loosing my mother to cancer just over 8 years ago.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cancer Research will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU TICK THE "GIFT AID" BOX WHEN DONATING!
Many thanks for your support,
Luke
