We were extremely sorry to announce the passing of Lumpy Bumpy, our adoption horse on 28 June 2010.

Lumpy Bumpy came to Bransby in August 2003 at the request of the RSPCA.  Lumpy had lots of ‘Sarcoids’ (Skin tumours) all over his body which required veterinary treatment – this was how the name ‘Lumpy Bumpy’came to be.

Lumpy had a constant battle with these sarcoids, having continuous  treatment, but throughout he was showed extreme courage and bravery.  However, due to Lumpy’s foot conformation he has also suffered greatly with his feet.  Thoroughbreds often have flat feet which suffer greatly from concussion but with remedial shoeing from our farrier Lumpy has managed to stay sound for the past few years.

However recently something changed within his feet, and even the remedial shoeing could not alleviate the pain.  X rays showed no alterations within the bony structures but Lumpy still could not walk comfortably on any surface other than his shavings bed in his stable.

After long heartbreaking consultations with our vets and the welfare assistants who care for him daily, it was agreed that the kindest thing for Lumpy was to put him to sleep to ensure he wasn’t in constant pain.  This is one of the hardest decisions we have had to make here at Bransby as Lumpy was very special to all who had cared for him over the past 6 years and his absence leaves a massive void here at the Home.

In memory of Lumpy, whom many of our supporters adopted and loved, we have opened a Memorial fund to raise money for a Woodchip area, adjacent to our Rehabilitation Barn, where animals suffering from lameness issues can be turned outside in comfort.  The area is to be named ‘The Lumpy Bumpy Rehabilitation Turnout’ and any donations will be greatley valued.
