My grandad Mick, is suffering currently from this delapidating condition which is Dementia. It is absolutely heartbreaking watching what was a strong independent man turn into the now often confused and totally dependant person he is now.  Life is only possible and bearable with the introduction of humour as otherwise it makes you want to cry. Without the constant care and assistance from my Nan and other family members my Grandad wouldn't be able to have the wonderful caring and fulfilling life he has.

We hear everyday how Alzheimer's disease is affecting more and more people, but nothing prepares you for the unending sadness of sitting by and watching your loved one consumed by this wicked disease.

Running for me is not easy so is something I am going to have to strive for and will push me to my limit to enable me to succeed. But succeed I will if it helps raise funds to assist in the research of Dementia.

* £100 could provide the tools for scientists to map 10,000 genes in minute detail, identifying targets for the development of new treatments.

* £500 will cover the cost of a sensitive brain scan for a patient involved in a research study, tracking the effectiveness of new drug treatments, improving diagnosis and better understanding how diseases like Alzheimer’s wreak their havoc in the brain.
