So I'm going to join those thousands of people who prefer to run from Greenwich to The Mall, instead of getting the perfecty pleasant boat service.
In order to give my tired legs a reason to keep going after mile 18 or so, I am raising money for the Alzeimers Society. My mum suffered with Dementia, and I know that the family suffered along with her.
It is a heartbreaking disease, and even though my mum, who sadly recently died, got fabulous care, in a wonderful care home, other people are not so lucky, and struggle to care for their loved one in less than ideal circumstances. A recent visit to hospital for my mum, resulted in her contracting an infection which she could not fight off. Thankfully she did not suffer for long.
Dementia is a growing health problem, and experience has shown me that there is no where near enough resources put into help for either sufferers or their families nor into research to try and ease the condition or even find a cure. I really hope the picture is different when I get older, and perhaps start to suffer myself... the numbers are frightening!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimer's Society gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now, don't leave it until tomorrow, you know you will forget!
