Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online if you can thanks..
On 10th October 2008, I will be off to the hills of Kerala in Southern India to take on a cycle challenge in aid of the Openwork Foundation - Cares4Kids. In a moment of utter madness I have challenged myself to ride a mere 465km (288 miles) over a 5 day period. I still cannot believe I am doing it... but I am... I have started training, I have subscribed to the gym and have bought the new bike, gell padded saddle and padded shorts to help ease the pain!!
I have been asked why? are you mad? are you bonkers? so why am I doing it? well I am fortunate to be fit (apart from the need to lose a few stone), I am enjoying life to the full and I want to help some disadvantaged children to have the life that many children including my own take for granted! Midge Story the Foundation Manager recently showed me some photographs of some orphans living of the rubbish dumps in the Phillipines, I was horrified at the conditions, but pleased to learn that the foundation was helping by building a school to house over 1000 children, provide a good meal each day and educate them to a better life. The Openwork Foundation is part of Zurich Community Trust and over the years has raised over £15.9 million for charities across the UK, locally we have given grants to the likes of; Zoe's Place (baby hospice), The Rainbow Trust (Hospice), St Oswalds (childrens hospice), Gibside School a special school in Whickham and many many more.... I am fortunate to work within the N&CE Area office of Openwork, managed by Geoff Denton and support from a great management team. Over the year we have raised over £12k locally doing raffles/golf tournaments and other events, we could not have done it without the help and inspiration from Geoff. We have recently been awarded the Top Fundraising Team of 2007 and want to do better in 2008, we have planned more events over the year including a Golf Tournament and with my £2.5k or £4.5k we should do it again.... So once again, thank you for visiting my fundraising page, please dig deep and sponsor me online, every £1 takes me closer to my target. But please remember Give no more than you can afford.. I took part in the Great North Bike Ride in August 08 as a taster, 56 miles..... in aid of the Chris Lucas Trust, I DID IT in 5 hrs and 20mins..... IT HURT A LITTLE NEAR THE END!!.......... Thank you Lynn Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Zurich Community Trust (UK) Ltd will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
