For people who remember Iain Burns, his loss was tragic and distressing. While living in Tokyo, Iain went missing in early 2010. Being separated by over 5000 miles meant that during his disappearance, Iain’s friends and family in the UK felt helpless to act or track down his whereabouts. Missing Abroad was able to step in and communicate with the appropriate authorities to locate Iain and assist his family in repatriating his remains.
Those who didn’t know Iain may have a loved one living or travelling abroad. Having had personal experience of living outside the UK has made me aware of the practical problems involved with communication and cultural differences. This can be compounded by trying to gather information in difficult and trying circumstances. Missing Abroad provide the link and expertise which all of us may one day find ourselves in need of.
Paula and Lyn are running the Birmingham Half Marathon in memory of Iain “Eze” Burns and in support of Missing Abroad as recognition for their invaluable assistance.
