Update 21/06/11 - CHALLENGE COMPLETE
That's it folks! We've finally done it. Started at 4a.m and finished at 8.15p.m, what a day it was, we had to contend with wind, rain, midgies, fog, darkenss, slices, hooks, tops, fats, thins, shanks, freshies, double hits not to mention fatigue but we made it. Sore feet, sore legs, sore backs and sore heads on Monday morning but thanks to all of you we have raised in the region of £3500 for MacMillan.
For those of you who entered the 'guess the score' competition at Cathcart Castle's Gala Day the final total for 16 rounds was 1248 (apologies to those who guessed 1243-1247 I had 3 freshies from a precarious lie at Bonnyton and Gregg had a delightful double hit with a chip shot at C.C). The best 3 gross scores competition was won with 208 (AJ with 69 at C.C, 70 at Pollok and myself with a 69 at C.C) so it wasn't all bad.
You can still donate up to 18th July if you haven't had the chance and you can now do so by text, simply text GOLF99 followed by the amount you wish to donate £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070
I have added a select few photos from the day to the page for evidence. Many thanks again to everyone who donated, We are overwhelmed by the reaction. We thought our initial target of £1500 was going to be tough but thanks to you we have more than doubled it, a fantastic effort by all involved.
Thanks to Bonnyton, Whitecraigs, Cathcart Castle and Pollok and their members who have been very accomodating and helped the day run smoothly. Too many individual thankyous to possibly mention but to everyone who helped us out via donating, helping on the day or coming up to show your support please take pride in knowing that the funds raised will be used by MacMillan to improve somebody's quality of life.
I'd also like to say a quick thankyou to Manus Tolland of Cathcart Castle G.C who followed us from the 8th Hole at Bonnyton right to the end helping with scorekeeping and giving our backs brief respite and also to my playing partners Gregg, Ali and Chris who put in a stunning shift on the day, very well played lads.

Update 10/06/11
We have enlisted the support of former masters champion Trevor Immelman, 2-time European Tour winner Marc Warren and European Tour Rookie Scott Jamieson via Twitter as you will see in the photo album. Great publicity for the event as thousands will see it. Good luck to Scott this week in the Italian Open, he is off to a flyer and just one shot off the lead at -7 hoping to secure a spot in The Open. Thanks for your support gentlemen!
Update 09/06/2011
Once again a massive thanks to our most recent sponsors as well as those who started us off, you are beautiful people! You have all helped us exceed our wildest expectations and we really appreciate your support but we're not done yet.
The uniforms are away being embroidered as I type, we decided to go with Navy V-Necks and white poloshirts as a nod to the late Seve Ballesteros. This event has been made all the more poignant given his recent passing after a long battle with brain cancer. I'm sure he'll be laughing down at us as we attempt to emulate him by extracting our balls from various locations i.e trees, burns, bushes, bunkers, ponds, car parks, gardens etc in aid of this excellent cause. A special thanks goes to Jennifer Brown for sorting out a hefty discount on the clothing as well as her sponsorship.
In other news, Chris and Gregg have been working hard on getting their handicaps reinstated. They have been re-allocated 6.5 and 9.3 respectively which makes me glad it's all about the fundraising and not the scoring as they've not been anywhere near that level since they were 17 (I wonder why?!).
If anyone wishes to donate in cash please get in touch with any of the competitors or pay a visit to the professional, Stephen Duncan, at the Cathcart Castle or in the bar at C.C.G.C.
Update 25/05/11
What a tremendous effort in our first week, we are almost at our target already with more in the pipeline depending on scores. Thankyou to all who have sponsored us so far, your generosity knows no bounds, it really is greatly appreciated however we're not done yet, we set the target as a goal but now it looks as though we are going to make target we are looking to "SMASH IT!" as Richard Keys would say. So please continue to donate and tell your friends about this page.
The boys have been in training for the event aleady, Jonny has been hitting loads of golf shots (unfortunately in the monthly medal) Gregg has been in the gym every day LOL JK and Chris has been practicing sleep deprivation by staying up until the wee small hours of Sunday morning. AJ has gone MIA. Rumour has it he's been looking all over for his short game, if anyone has seen it can they please get in touch.

Welcome to the JustGiving page for "The Pitching Weegies" who have entered a team for the MacMillan Longest Day Golf Challenge 2011
Allow us to explain...
Four valiant warriors, namely Alistair Brown, Gregg Sommerville, Chris Love and Jonny McLeish, are setting out to scale the peaks of Bonnyton GC, Cathcart Castle GC, Whitecraigs GC and the mother of them all... Pollok GC all in one day in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support.
We will be teeing off at around 4a.m on Sunday 19th June deep in the moors of Eaglesham and hopefully finishing before darkness falls in the scenic suburb of Pollokshaws.
Please bear in mind when donating that we will need to abstain from going out on the Saturday night which means the pubs and clubs of Glasgow are safe for the rest of the community without fear of bumping into any of us.
Please also spare a thought for the team members that will have to show tremendous mental strength in order to put up with; Love’s ghastly patter, Brown’s bipolar moodswings going from utter elation at the sight of a birdie putt being holed to manic depression when he loses a ball, not to mention the sight of McLeish missing putts that even Scott Hoch and Doug Sanders would consider gimmes - coupled with constant forays into the wilderness in search of Sommerville’s tee shots (which will add at least an extra 800 yards to every course we play)
And so… armed with a bagfull of top flites we will head out on our our voyage of discovery. If we’re not back by Thursday send a search party.
