Story

I have decided to run the Bristol 10K race on 20th May 2012 in memory of Matthew Boughton, better known to me as Mr B.

Mr B was Head of Drama at Worth School from 2008 until his untimely death in September 2011. In his time there, he not only taught Drama, but he was an inspirational man who opened people's eyes to the beauties and complexities of the theatrical world. To me, he was a brilliant teacher and, as we worked together over productions and A Levels, I like to think that he became a friend.

He taught me how to roll around on the floor like a giant bug, how to fire blanks from a gun, how to dance like a bear, how to run screaming into walls and how to welcome with open arms all sorts of weird and wonderful ideas. My memories of him will never fade, but the one thing that he taught me that stays with me every day is how to embrace new challenges and overcome any obstacles in my way.

It is for this reason that I have decided to take on the challenge of the Bristol 10K. I have never liked running, but, through perserverance and determination, I hope to cross the finish line with a smile on my face as a thank you gesture to Mr B, whose influence on my life will never leave me.

I will be running and raising money for a charity that Mr B wished for people to donate to on behalf of him. It is the Cardinal Hume Centre, a London based charity that supports homeless and unemployed young people, as well as families in financial difficulty, and assists them in gaining skills to build new lives for themselves.

Please visit their website to find out more about what they do:

Thank you for choosing to donate to a worthy cause in memory of an unforgettable person, your support is much appreciated.
