Heya guys, Thanks for taking time out to visit my fundraising page and hopefully donating! Here is a bit of information on what I am doing and what your donations will be going towards. As many of you probably know I was adopted from Honduras, a small country found in Latin America. I was one of the lucky ones. Latest figures suggest that one child is abandoned every four days. Unfortunately this is the case in most of the countries in that area of the world. On January the 12th I am going to be flying out to Guatemala, a country that borders Honduras in conjunction with a Christian charity called Latin Link, specializing in sending volunteers out to Latin America. There I will be working on a project called 'El Castillo', in the capital which is run by a charity called Toybox. The project runs a number of homes for street children; this is where I will be working until I return on the 2nd September having spent just over 8 months out there.
So it is coming towards the end of October and I am still here in Guatemala!
I came to the end of my time and realised that actually I wasn't ready to home. I consideres staying with El Castillo as towards the end I had some really good relationships with the boys and had started taking their devotionals, however in the end I decided to change projects.
I am working with a project called AMI San Lucas in one of the villages surrounding the famous Lake Atitlan. It means that now every morning I get to wake to a view of the lake and its surrounding volcanoes, I am a very lucky girl!
As far as the project goes it has two main areas of focus. Disaster managment and prevention and youth work, mainly sex education and work in schools. It is run by a Doctor and his wife and is supported by Tearfund. There are four other main staff members and I am there as a volunteer. I have been there just under two months now and enjoying it a lot. It is really encouraging to see people out here doing this type of work as it is really needed, and yet so lacking.
Obviously I am working as a volunteer and as such any expenses that I have, I have to raise the money for myself. I have a large amount already bit there is still a way to go. With your help, I hope I can reach it.
