Martha Trust is transforming the lives of people with profound disabilities. With homes in Kent and Sussex, we ensure that the people who live with us lead active and fulfilling lives and get the most out of each and every day.

Story

Last year I acted as back-up mechanic for 23 loonies who fancied driving down to Rome in old bangers... and, somehow, here I am again! The only difference for 2009 is the destination - instead of braving the Alps it will be the Pyrenees as we make our way down to the Spanish capital.

I have found a delightful old banger for the trip and she only set me back £1 - well actually 80p as I found 20p behind the back seat! Unfortunately it's another Ford Escort with a slipping clutch - but I have promised to fix it before we go this year as after 1,000 miles it does start to get a bit annoying (or so Julie reckoned!) I have to admit that it was quite a relief when it was time to crush the old escort last year and fly back to the UK.

To add a special twist this time we have decided to go in fancy dress as Peter Pan, Captain Hook and Tinkerbell - but I leave you to guess who gets to play which character!

Once again I am doing this to help Mary House, a home for profoundly disabled young people in Hastings, East Sussex. It's a cracking little charity and deserves all the support that it can get. The money that we raise is spent on fun things like music therapy, trips out and hydrotherapy - anything that improves the quality of life for their great residents. I really want to raise £1 for every mile of the challenge to make it worthwhile.

We made it!!! Only one breakdown but all 12 cars got down to Madrid safely. Thank you so much to everyone who sponsored me - we'll just have to go again next year now.... but where to?
