I have signed up to spend 10 days trekking across the Sahara Desert in order to try and raise money for the charity Help for Hero's.

On 12th July 2009, I was sat listening to the Royal Marines Band play a memorial concert for 11 marine musicians who were killed 20 years ago when a bomb exploded at the Deal barracks.  At the concert were a group of soldiers who had just returned from duty in Afghanistan having suffered injuries.  In the week leading up to the concert 8 young soldiers had been killed in the space of 24 hours, and several others had been wounded.  As a result I decided to try and raise money for the charity Help for Hero's.

Help for Hero’s, was launched in October 2007 in response to the desire of ordinary people to do something practical to help our wounded servicemen and women. As individuals, we are powerless to prevent war and we feel helpless that we are unable to stop our men and women from being killed and wounded.  Help for Hero’s is strictly non-political and their aim is very simple – to ensure that the wounded get the best help, support and futures that they deserve.
