Crisis!
I've developed a chronic injury which is rendering me unable to walk, run or go to work. So far, I've been off sick for three months, hence the hiking is definitely not on the agenda next month! :-(
So far, the good folks at Maggies are allowing me to postpone the trek until April next year. I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope that I'll be fit to go then. Please, everybody, keep sponsoring. Even if I don't manage to make the trek, at least this wonderful charity won't miss out on the fundraising!

30th May Another cake stall has come and gone, and I'm glad to say that this one has been another great success. Thanks to my family for their help with baking and sorting out the stall, and to everyone who came to buy. You were all incredibly generous with your donations above and beyond the cost of the food! Thank you all. 25th April There is about to be another cake and candy stall at the Western General Hospital in another 3 weeks time. If you're in Edinburgh around that date, please do pop by and stuff your faces...the money all goes to a great cause. The last stall raised £250, so the bar is set high! ______________________________________________ 23rd April A huge donation from my beloved Grandma, who has already been so generous towards me and Maggies with her donations. Lots and lots of love to her!!!!! _______________________________________________ 2nd March My first corporate sponsor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The company, Integra Neurosciences, which provides some of the equipment used in my ITU, has sponsored me 250 pounds :-) Very exciting - takes me almost to the 2500 mark. Can't even begin to express gratitude! ___________________________________________________ 15th Feb Well, the cake and candy stall yesterday was a huge success, raising over 200 pounds for Maggie's on the day, with an extra 100 pounds generously donated by the Fraser's team. I would just like to say a huge thankyou to all those who helped me to organise, and to all those who gave so generously of their time and money: All the girls at Fraser's Nursing Agency My mum, dad and brother My long-suffering friend Anna, who helped with all the last-minute organisation Mark - whose cake tasting role was useful in the run-up to the event ;-), and who didn't moan much about the 6am wake-up. All the girls from work who baked and sampled. Thanks again. _______________________________________________ Jan 5th A Very Happy New Year to all my sponsors!!! As you can see, we've done a fabulous job so far for Maggies - over half way with the fundraising and still plenty to go. The next event to take place will be a cake and candy stall, along with handmade Valentine's cards, on February 14th in the entrance hall of the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. If you're in the neighbourhood, please do drop by and indulge yourselves... it's for a very good cause. __________________________________________ October 16th Well, the hair's gone now. My beautiful, twenty-inch long hair is currently being made into wigs for children with long-term illnesses. Apparently, the charity- Locks of Love- will send me photos when the wigs have been given out to needy kids. I am hoping to download before and after pics to this site for anyone who wants a look. I'd love to say a huge thankyou to all the people who sponsored me. I don't mind looking 'French' for a while ;-) The sponsorship was well worth it! Keep your eyes peeled for the next sponsorship event: If you're in Edinburgh around Christmas time, there's bound to be lots of raffles and cake stalls to help raise funds. Thanks again to everyone who helped: my family, mark, the staff at KHD, the list goes on... __________________________________________ I am an intensive care nurse at the Western General Hospital - the site of the original 'Maggie's Centre' - and I am trekking 10 days through the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu in October 2005 in order to raise £3000 for the Maggie's Centre Charity. Originally conceived by Maggie Keswick Jencks and her husband, and built after her death from cancer, 'Maggie's Centre', as it's now known, provides information, support, counselling and relaxation treatments to patients with cancer, and their families. It is a warm, friendly and open place, and a wonderful resource in any hospital. Please help me to raise money in order to build more of these centres all over the UK. Yours sincerely, Kate Dowds _______________________________________ Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Maggie's Centres will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support.
