It’s no secret that Narin wants to make a positive difference to the world.

Little did mum and dad know that switching to fair-trade tea and coffee and buying free range eggs was the start and not the end of her campaign...she has also achieved many other great things: getting Ana to pay triple for fair-trade socks; educating the kiosk in Baker Street station about what fair-trade chocolate is during her desperate craving for chocolate after vowing to only eat Divine (google it!) and taking full responsibility for Amit’s eco-conscious conversion from car to bicycle as his new sustainable mode of transport ;)

My new years resolution for 2010 is "making things happen"

Next mission:

I’m off to Borneo in South East Asia in July for two and a half months! That’s 19 hours of flying (including a change over...?!) not to mention 5 vaccinations!

When I get there I’ll be joining the Raleigh team (http://www.raleighinternational.org/index.php) to volunteer on sustainable community and environmental projects. This is something I have always wanted to do but would never have been brave enough to venture into alone. Sabah is the poorest of the Malaysian states and Raleigh does the amazing job of combining the real needs of remote communities, with the enthusiasm and will power of young people (like me!).

Please contribute to these worthwhile projects and help me reach this £1000* fundraising target before 1st May 2010. In addition to this I’ll be paying for flights and kit myself (which includes things like: “Box Mosquito Net”, “Mess tins” and “Bungee Cords” and other things that I haven’t worked out the uses for yet...wish me luck!)

(*The target is now £800 because I have contributed £200 to Raleigh as a deposit for my commitment to this expedition already.)

Please sponsor me for any of the following: (a) this expedition (b) my 5k run in April, which I will run and not walk as I promised Jodie! (c) selling my teddy bears in a car boot sale!!! :(  (d) because I really can’t wait to do this, it is for an excellent and necessary cause and I truly appreciate your support!!

Thanks!! xxxx

Want to know what I might be getting up to? Examples of past projects include:

·         Construction of community halls and kindergartens

·         Construction of sustainable eco-tourism facilities

.         Building gravity water feed systems that provide clean, drinkable water to remote communities.

·         Construction of bird hides in Likas Bird Sanctuary

·         Rainforest reforestation projects

·         Construction of the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre.

About Raleigh International Trust
Raleigh is a youth and education charity. Since 1984 we have inspired over 30,000 people from all walks of life, nationalities and ages to get out there and rise to the challenges of life on expedition.

We have two commitments. Our first is to provide a transformational journey for everyone who joins an expedition. We aim to awaken a sense of life-purpose and self-belief by involving participants deeply with people, places, and communities.

Our second commitment is to our host countries. With a permanent presence and long-standing partnerships with government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and local communities, we are dedicated to bringing communities together, often for the first time, giving them the resources and motivation to achieve sustainable development.

Our vision is to be recognised as a global community of active citizens passionate about making a difference to their world.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
