THANKS SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO VISIT OUR JUSTGIVING PAGE IN MEMORY OF MAL
OUR AIM IS TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THE CHRISTIE CANCER CARE HOSPITAL IN MANCHESTER
AND TO RAISE AWARENESS OF HEAD AND NECK CANCER..
We have set up the Mal Hutton Campaign for Head And Neck Cancer Education fund
THIS PAGE IS SET UP IN MEMORY OF MAL HUTTON WHO WE LOST AFTER A 7 MONTH BATTLE WITH
CANCER THAT STARTED AS A MOUTH ULCER IN MAL'S MOUTH AND SPREAD TO HIS GLANDS AND HIS
NECK.
Mal was diagnosed with mouth cancer in October 2008, and sadly died on the 16th May 2009, just 9 days before his birthday, he was aged just 38. Those who were lucky enough to have met Mal cant help but to have been touched by his enthusiasm for life. He loved art, painting, photography and birdwatching and he and Lynne would regularly go to Mere Sands Woods where Mal did voluntary work in his youth and to other nature reserves. He was a loving husband to Lynne, loving step-dad to Emma and Rachel and helped Rachel with her art. He was a loving brother and Uncle and was a good mate to many..........and not a bad chef!!!
The Mal Hutton CHANCE fund was set up by myself (Mal's wife) to bring together Mal's family, friends and workmates to unite in memory of Mal to raise £15000 for The Christie Hospital in Manchester. Mal received Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy at the Christie and they never gave up hope on Mal. I realise that we can't help Mal now or bring him back and we all miss him so much, but our aim is to give others the CHANCE of life through treatment at The Christie Hospital to hopefully cure or treat their cancer. Our other aim is to raise awareness of head a neck cancer.
When we reached our first fundraising target of £15,000, we received a gold leaf with Mal's name on it which was placed on the Tree of Hope at The Christie Hospital as a permenant dedication to Mal (see 'photos').

First off We had 'The Empire' followed by 'Helecopter View', '21 MIles' and finally 'The Snakes'. We have so far raised money for the fund from the Robin Hood annual fancy dress pub crawl....raising £1450 and the following events...
DW GYM 80's FANCY DRESS AEROBICS CLASSES...Raised £190
A huge thank you to all the people who joined myself, Mal's Wife Lynne, and daughters Emma and Rachel and Emma's friend Emma Davies on Sunday 23rd August, for the gym classes that the DW Gym held especially for our fund.
Even though all who attended the classes pay monthly membership, they kindly gave of their time and money to raise £190.00 for the Fund. We had great fun exercising to the likes of Flashdance, and other great 80's tunes.
Thanks so so much to the Gym for organising the classes and for raising so much money for the fund. We are very grateful. (pictures to follow - when I get them from the gym)
COAST TO COAST - 200 Miles, 10 Days! Well Done...Raised £2670, still counting
The coast to coast walk has finished - a huge well done to all in what proved to be one of the worst weeks of Summer rain we have had for a long time, coupled together with some dry room facilities not working made for a wet and uncomfortable start to the walk. We had a feeling things may not go as planned when a practice walk down the canal the week before resulted in the team getting lost and going the wrong way - I'm still not sure how you can get lost on a canal footpath!! ...............None of these mishaps through the 10 days though and a great effort by the whole team, some sore knees, sore feet, sore backs but a great sense of achievement.... Thanks to everyone who has donated and also to the people who helped support the walk, collecting laundry, taking fresh clothes and even supplying a tipple of champagne as the Walkers walked onto the beach at Robin Hoods Bay!! Collections are still being made and we will update the total amount raised when we have the figure, it is looking at being a significant amount - Take a look at the pictures
SPONSORED WALK AT THE MARINA CARAVAN PARK, LANCASTER ... Raised £596
We held a sponsored walk on 1st August 2009 where myself (Mal's wife Lynne) my mum Margaret, my youngest daughter Rachel and my nephew Jean-Luc along with 14 others completed 10 rounds of the caravan site (6 miles) and raised to date £540.00 and one MALE resident was sponsored to wear a skirt for the walk. The caravan site have their own charity but kindly chose to help to raise money for our fund. Two of the residents have actually been treated for head and neck cancer. One little boy Kane also gave his ice-cream money to the fund - thank you so much Kane!! A massive thank you to all who took part in the walk - well done!! Thanks to Linda (the manageress of the site) and my mum for organising the walk and collecting sponsorship money etc and to everyone who either gave donations or kindly sponsored others to walk. (photos attached) We had a great time and raised alot of money.
BLACKPOOL TO MANCHESTER BIKE RIDE ...Raised £145
Wayne Booth completed the Blackpool to Manchester bike ride (not bad for a man of his age!!) Well done Wayne!
CRICKET MATCH...Raised £382
On the 16th Aug a Charity cricket match was held at Winstanley Cricket Club - many of Mal's friends from the Robin Hood took on representatives of the Running Horses and The Delph Tavern in a mini tournemant. Thanks to everyone involved in the day including all the players from all pubs, Winstanley cricket club and the volunteers for hosting the event - and all the supporters who came along and kept the spirit of the day fun and enjoyable. The Robin Hood came out winners, however the most important thing is raising the money and awareness. The money is still being collected and counted - we will update with the amount but looks to be in the region of £300 - £400 raised from the day ,,,,Thanks
3 PEAKS - 23 HOURS AND 19 MINUTES!!...Raised £3450
WE DID IT!!!!!! It was enjoyable, eventful and when we look back now, challenging at times but thoughts of Mal and the fundraising kept us going - and the lucozade, jelly tots and bananas sure helped too!!
Myself (Mal's wife Lynne), Paul (Mal's best mate - with Christie emblem shaved into his head) and Adam (mine and Mal's nephew) achieved our aim of climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours. Amidst torrential rain we climbed Ben Nevis after the guy in the tourist shop putting the fear of god in us. He urged us to start earlier and told us that there were 70mph gales at the top so he advised not going all the way to the summit. We were gutted - we wanted to go all the way to the summit and luckily we saw one raven (good luck apparently). The rain may have whipped our faces but the gales died down and we reached the top. Not before helping a woman 40 minutes into the climb, who had a twisted ankle - (we had to call for mountain rescue for her and stopped for 25 minutes). One peak completed - two to go!!!!
We arrived at Scafell Pike and climbed the first bit in pitch black with out head torches on - scary!! slip sliding on mud and had to walk through the waterfall. We got soaked!!. We slipped down half the way back on wet rocks but at least it helped our time LOL! Thank god Scafell was out of the way. Me and Adam swore that we would never ever climb it again! - 2 down - 1 to go!!! Bring on Snowdon!!!
We arrived in Snowdon to glorious sunshine but weren't fooled - we knew it was only a matter of time before we had our next soaking. It wouldn't have been the same if we hadn't got drenched on Snowdon as well. We were on a mission to complete this and the end was in sight. The rain started near the top and we had to cling hold of the trig point as per usual because of the gales!!!
Don't know how we found the energy but we ran it back and we did it!!! We are ecstatic that we completed the challenge in 23 hours and 19 minutes. Well done to everyone - we were a great team and we did it for Mal and The Christie - now what shall we plan next!!!!!
A massive thankyou to everyone who has supported and encouraged us especially our families and friends and for all the generous sponsorship and donations we have received. We are so grateful to you all - thank you so much!!. We don't have a total figure that we have raised at the moment but will keep the site updated and will let you know ASAP.

MANCHESTER RUN
Lauren Hampson who raised £420.00 by completing the Manchester Run. Wearing a chef's bandana and a T-shirt with Mal's name on it, Lauren completed the run on the 17th May 2009. This was just the day after Mal died so it was very emotional for her. Well done Lauren!!!!. (Photo to follow)
