Story

Well its race time again!!

Who'd have thought but I actually feel quite excited this year and a big reason for that is I have my secret weapon, Daddy Barnwell in my team and RUNNING WITH ME!!

He's put in the hours (101 half and 50 marathons - truly amazing); had the good humour and grace to ignore my "you don't know how much my blisters hurt!" cries and battled the M4 to meet me for training sessions. No mean feat.

This year we are running for Get Kids Going!  which is a national charity giving disabled, young children the chance to participate in sports.

We are aiming for around 2 hours 10 but to be honest its more about getting round, running ALL THE WAY - no sneaky staqggers at the 10 mile mark - and a smile and a high five at the finish!

Love you to give what you can and see you in the park!!

Lisa and Tony xx

Last Year's Story...

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Well the race is over and I DID IT!! 2 hours and 19 minutes. Not an Olympic time but I'm happy with that!

Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me so far it really helped me at the 10/11 mile mark when I could happily have lay down on the grass in the park and finished early!

The route was really lovely and there was an amazing atmosphere. I have to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who cheered me and the other 15,000 or so on - especially my Mum & Dad who raced around the course to see me 4 times with Dad running alongside for the last few hundred meters (hilarious!) and my sister, brother-in-law and nieces and nephew. A high five at 12.5 miles was great support!

What did I do?

I am competing in the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon on Sunday 11th October 2009 in aid of Help a London Child. Click here for the route map! and up until the last couple of months my running experience consisted of the Sydney Half Marathon in 1994 and a 5k in Prague about 10 years later. Not exactly consistent.

The Sydney event was a very spur of the moment decision. 33,000 feet up, with a glass of wine in hand. I was flying over to support my Dad who has enjoyed an illustrious running career of 100 halfs and 50 marathons - I thought "how hard can it be"? Needless to say my race time included a fair amount of walking and I've always wanted to be able to run the distance.

In the last couple of months I have completed a 10k and 8 mile race (in 65 and 79 minutes respectively) and my wonderful Dad has helped me build up to circuits of around 10/11 miles. This Sunday, I am on my own and my goal is to run the whole way and complete in around 2 hours,10.

As the Founder and Director of Me & My Baby Therapy Rooms & Clinic which offers a one-stop-shop of treatments, yoga and classes for new mum's and mum's-to-be, it seemed a natural choice to support Help a London Child.

During October I will be donating £1.00 from every client I see, either at at my clinic or on-site at Chelsea & Westminster's Kensington Wing as part of a new project with the hospital.

If you would like to sponsor me and donate, you can do this through JustGiving and it's simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails and once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate.

Thanks for your support and wish for a sunny Sunday!
