Please support us ! We are part of the MAMIL Movement (Middle-Aged Men In Lycra). Three heavy ex/current rugby players wrestling with their waistlines as they cruise into their 40s. A sight to behold in lycra we can assure you !
Forget the traditional mid-life crisis whims of fast cars and new wives...cycling is where it's at. Come the 11th of July we will embark on a spiritual journey to compete in the Etape du Tour - a one day 109 km cycling race through the French Alps, taking in the legendary climbs of the Cols du Telegraphe (1566m) and Galibier (2556m) before finally tackling Alpe d'Huez (1850m) and its 21 hairpin turns to the top. http://www.letapedutour.com/EDT1/2011/ETDT/presentation/us/parcours.htm
We are not riding for ourselves but for a charity close to our hearts, the Oxford Children's Hospital based at the John Radcliffe, Oxford. This hospital is local to us and with eight children between us aged from 2 to 8 it carries enormous significance.
This fantastic hospital constantly needs financial help treating some 65,000 children every year with conditions ranging from heart disease to childhood cancer and in many cases needing specialist surgery.
The JR is not just for Oxfordshire but also serves the five surrounding counties - Berks, Bucks, Northants, Gloucs and Wilts and for some services treats children from across the UK.
The monies we raise will provide firstly, advanced medical equipment before
that equipment becomes standard in the NHS and secondly, an enhanced
environment within the hospital for the children and their families.
Please, please dig deep for The Mamils In The Mountains and help us hit our target for The Oxford Children's Hospital and lay our lycra urge to rest !
