Pound for Peru Appeal
Thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page. Please take a moment to read my plea.
In 2008, I was trekking the Inca trail as part of a grand tour across South America, but whilst on the trail my boyfriend became critically ill and fell into a coma. He had to be stretchered by porters for eleven hours to the nearest medical centre for emergency treatment. He was then transferred to Cusco where he remained in hospital for a total of two months, until we could arrange an air ambulance for repatriation. After returning to the UK he was rushed straight to hospital and battled for a further two months, before developing complications. He passed away on the 21 September 2008. In September 2009, to make the first anniversary of his death, I am returning to Peru to complete the trail in his memory and to raise money for a fantastic cause.
I shall be raising money for a local children’s charity Have a Heart and for a parallel scheme to care for Peruvian children in a mountain village on the outskirts of Cusco. I shall be visiting the community to witness firsthand how your money can make a difference to a child’s life. Whilst not spreading your donations too thinly, I would also like to offer a token of gratitude to the private medical clinic who took Richard in and gave him the best treatment available to ensure that they can offer the same level of service to others in the future.
On a personal note, I was in such a desperate situation in Peru; alone and in a non-English speaking country, but the Peruvians were amazingly kind and supportive and I see this as a good way of giving something back as well as returning to offer my personal thanks to everyone who helped us both during a distressing time. Second to my experiences last year, this will be the hardest challenge I have ever faced in my life and I would really appreciate your support.
So please, help me make some good come out of this nightmare and honour Rich’s memory in a way that would make him proud.
