Story
Ladies and Gentlemen,
In true unorthodox fashion, I decided to raise donations for charity after the event! On the 14th June 2008 at approx 2350 I crossed the start line with two friends on a 26 mile expedition in Edinburgh, in aid of Breast Cancer and Medicinema.
It took 3 months of training, walking approx 20 miles every weekend since March, even with my bad back and metatarsal injury! Nonetheless, I completed the walk but perhaps not in the time I anticipated doing it….. but there is always next year!
Breast cancer is a popular cause and we have a lot of knowledge of this cause. However this year, I have decided to support Medicinema as well.
Also, as many of you know, I have started looking into setting up my own charity. I strongly believe and am passionate about developing education for children aged between 4 and 16 in small villages around India, giving them a chance and an opportunity to get the right start in life, to help improve poverty in regions where government funds do not support poor families. This is a little way off at the moment, so instead I am dedicating proceeds to Medicinema instead.
MediCinema is committed to creating purpose-built state of the art cinemas in hospitals across the United Kingdom, so patients of all ages can enjoy the magic of the movies. Medicinema enhance patient care in hospitals by introducing free cinema screenings for patients young and old, and their families.
Laughter is still the best medicine of all and Medicinema aim is to:
- Provide therapeutic benefit to patients in hospital
- Relieve boredom and stress
- Provide a distraction from patients' concerns and problems
- Prevent isolation of longer stay patients
- Provide a community atmosphere for patients, their families and carers
We all know someone or we can relate to being a patient with an illness. A little escapism from this situation brings a little happiness which for patients young and old goes a long way.
I would deeply appreciate your support to this charity, so we can contribute to putting a smile on faces even if it’s for a few hours. Please dig deep in your pockets even if it’s only a pound or two.
