This is an URGENT appeal for funds to give food for 270,000 people who have fled to Mannar and Vavuniya (in the North East of Sri Lanka) from Vanni. The need so great we have increased our target to £100,000.

As at 27/06/09 Arobanam has successfully delivered nearly 82,500 food parcels in the Mannar & Vavuniya camps. We have also been helping almost 1400 injured people in Vavuniya and Mannar  hospitals. We work closely with the Vauniya Convent. The Convent have been able to deliver essential items including mats, pillows, sugar, biscuits to many more people. In some cases we have provided milk powder along with flasks containing hot water for the babies. Essential help was given to 350 pregnant women too. On the 23rd May  the Sri Lankan authorities has banned all food delivery to camps. We had no choice but to stop. We are however still delivering food parcels and other essential items such as milk powder  to Hospitals in the area. With the help of "Destitute Welfare Fund" in Mannar, we are also trying get 314 children released from the camps. These children have lost both their parents and have no relatives in the area.

286,000 people have fled Vanni arrived in the already crowded towns of Vavuniya and Mannar. These people are held in 5 army run camps without basic facilities to sustain a life with dignity. These people have not eaten for several days and have not changed their clothing for more than one month.

Our partners (Destitute Welfare Fund) in Mannar are left with the task of helping to provide food for as many of the 50,000 unfortunate victims of the war. Arobanam's patron and his colleagues are helping the remaining people in Vavuniya.

With our limited resources, currently we have agreed to take responsibility to deliver food parcels for 3,000 people in the Mannar area for an indefinite period, depending on the availability of funds.

This is an appeal to you, our patrons of ACF, to donate as much as you can so that we can help these people who are undergoing such a terrible ordeal. Children are worse affected in this tragedy. Please help us to do much as we can and tell your friends to do the same by supporting us and any other reliable organisations involved in helping these people in the North-East of the Island .

Donating through Just Giving is quick, easy and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support ACF as we will receive your money instantly, and more importantly if you are a taxpayer, Just Giving ensures 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
