On Sunday, 13 April 2008 I will be staggering around the streets of London running the Marathon and raising money for the Scientific Exploration Society, a UK-based charity which undertakes a worldwide programme of expeditions focusing on scientific, conservation, education and community aid projects.

The money I raise for the SES will be used for community aid and education projects on its forthcoming expeditions, including to Ecuador (2008) and Bolivia (2009). The expeditions will be travelling to remote regions of these countries to tiny indigenous communities (of about 100 people each, in one case the last of the tribe). As well as undertaking research and providing advice on eco-tourism projects, the expeditions will engage in community aid and education projects: installing clean water systems and hygienic latrines, providing materials for schools and undertaking medical and dental treatment.
