Flora London Marathon 2006 · 23 April 2006 ·

Barts and The London Children's Hospital cares for over 45,000 children each year. We are the general hospital for east London and the City as well as a regional and national centre of excellence for a number of paediatric medical conditions and specialist treatments. Every year, The Children's Fund raises money for medical equipment, building projects, patient and family amenities and research. Donations help us enhance the work of children's hospital and to offer excellent care to our young patients, whether newborn or teenagers. The Children's Fund is a special fund held by Barts and The London Charitable Foundation.

Story

Hello and welcome to my fundraising page.

Those of you that have known me for any period of time will know that each April for the last 9 years I have dragged myself around the London Marathon course (in all weathers!), all in the name of charity.  Over the years your generosity has helped raise more than £16,000 for various causes, including The Parkinsons Disease Society, Children in Crisis and Cancer Research UK and it has given me enormous pleasure to be able to support these, and other, fantastic causes.

2006 will be my 10th and final London Marathon and I want to go out on a fundraising high.  My role as Head of Events within Barts and the London NHS Trust has made the decision of who to raise funds for very easy.  This year, I would like as many of you as possible to support the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Royal London Hospital, more details of which can be found to the left.

Suffice to say, the work these guys undertake is amazing, benifiting so many young lives and families.

On a personal note, I am challenging myself to run faster than when I ran my first race at the age of 21 (not to mention when I weighed a LOT less!) and to do this, I need to get round in under 3hrs 59m.  This is a really tall order as I generally take about half an hour longer (equivalent to about three miles)!  The more sadistic friends amongst you might consider offering extra donations if I manage to do this.  I welcome the challenge!!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Appeal will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.  £1 donation will become £1.28 at no cost of effort to you.

Thanks for reading all of this and look on the bright side, you'll not be hearing from me in 2007!

Thanks again,

Marc
