My story

Marcus Armytage, 46, captured a record when he rode Mr Frisk to win the 1990 National in a time which smashed Red Rum’s previous record by some 14 seconds. He is the last amateur to win the race and uniquely won the Whitbread Gold Cup on Mr Frisk three weeks later. Marcus rode a double at the Cheltenham Festival in 1992 in the Kim Muir and the National Hunt Chase, a race he also won two years later. He retired after his 100th winner – in Dubai. Marcus is now a racing journalist and author.
