My story
Originally I was just running the Great North Run 2011!
I've now racing all my events for Cancer Research UK!
They consist of:
11th September - Leeds Triathlon (olympic distance)
18th September - Great North Run (Half marathon)
9th October - Liverpool Marathon
16th October - Cardiff Half Marathon.
After running for Queenscourt Hospice in 2009 and raising a fantastic £465, and running for cancer research UK in 2010 raising £515, I will this year be running once again for Cancer Research UK, which is a charity close to my heart. 1 in 3 of us will get cancer in our lifetime, but sadly only 1 in 10 of us will donate to Cancer Research UK.
My dad was 1 of those 3, and although he fought to the end, he sadly died from cancer on the 23rd March 2006.
I spent 5 years of my life being physically unable to run, but in 2009, I decided to fight, fight the pain every step caused. And from not having ran for over 5 years, I ran the largest half marathon in the world.
This year, I've stepped up my game. In the space of 5 weeks, I will race:
1 Olympic Distance Triathlon.
2 Half Marathons.
1 Marathon.
I've never raced triathlon yet, and this will be my first marathon. It will be tough, and I'm sure it will take me to levels of pain and endurance that I never thought could be possible. But compared to what those with cancer suffer, it will be miniscule.
Together we can win this fight, and I will continue to fight.
