This fundraising page is dedicated to Margaret Towers (née Pitt), much loved mum, wife and grandma. In honour of her amazing life, a small group of her closest family members and friends will be climbing Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands this August to raise money for Cyclists Fighting Cancer. Please read on to find out more about Margaret and why we have chosen this charity. Margaret was a “can-doer”, who tried her hand at everything and lived life to the full. As a young woman she became interested in cycling, soon taking it up at a competitive level. It was through cycling that she met her husband Fred and also made many lifelong friends. Inbetween training, racing, work and overseas travel, she somehow found the time to raise a family of 3 daughters, embracing motherhood - as she did every life challenge - with great devotion, pride, and a wonderful sense of fun. Alongside her passion for cycling, Margaret was also a great advocate of walking. Our family holidays were always active and outdoors, and in the most spectacular locations: the Highlands of Scotland, the mountains of Wales, and - most beloved of all to her - Switzerland and the French Alps. It was in the French Alps that she cheered on Lance Armstrong – extraordinary cancer survivor - to 2 of his famous Tour de France victories in 2002 and 2004. In spite of her hectic and demanding schedule, Margaret always found time for others, in particular those in need who were hurting or suffering or perhaps just feeling alone. Be it with caring words in a card, some flowers or a small gift, her thoughtfulness and generosity touched and warmed many a heart. By choosing to walk Ben Nevis and raise money for the CFC, we hope to recapture the essence of Margaret: her physical activeness and sense of adventure, her determination to succeed no matter what, her love of the outdoors and the Scottish Highlands, and her natural compassion towards those in need. Please help us to continue her inspiring legacy by making a donation through this fundraising site. You can find out more about the CFC on their website, www.cyclistsfc.org.uk. Thank you for your support. Team Towers - Fred, Sandra, Anita and Lorna
