Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Most of you know already that back in April 2017 our son Ben was diagnosed with a High Grade Glioma Brain Tumour. He has since had masses of treatment including Surgery, Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy which he finished this summer.

We had the results of Ben's first post treatment scan yesterday and are ecstatic to say that there was “no evidence of disease re occurrence”
Oh my goodness I can’t explain how good it is to hear someone say that !

Unfortunately for Ben, this doesn’t mean that it’s the end of his journey with a Brain Tumour. He will continue to have regular 3 monthly
scans and he will live with the side effects of a Brain injury and his
treatment for the rest of his life.

Having said that Ben is amazing!!!! Throughout the whole of his illness he has remained positive, happy and is still smiling! He’s been such an inspiration to us all. He’s just returned to school, is building up his
strength and loving Mountain Biking and Photography.

So there’s the background and now the reason to run the
London Marathon. I personally have wanted to run the London Marathon since I first saw it back on the telly in the 80s. But ….. I’ve managed to put it off, going from wanting to be the youngest to run it, running it before I was 30, then before I was 40 and now before I’m 50.

Amie and I have bit the bullet this year, having such a worthy cause such as Clic Sargent to fund raise for and will be running together
next April. (Actually it may not be together as Amie (who is also amazing) is a lot younger and fitter than me.

Clic Sargent has been with us from the very beginning of Bens illness. We stayed at Billy’s House in Nottingham for 6 weeks whilst Ben
had intense high dose radiotherapy. They’ve provided practical, financial and emotional support. Their social workers are fantastic and always happy to listen. They also signpost to other Children’s Cancer Charities meaning that Ben has received gifts, days out, weekends away and has got a sailing trip to look forward to for next summer. All of these things have just made things that little bit easier and more tolerable. Without the work of charities such as these the effects of cancer on children and their families is just unthinkable.

Both Amie and I are both happy to be able to give back to Clic Sargent via their charity London Marathon places and really hope that you
will be able to support us with our fundraising.

Thankyou!!!!!
