Great Wall of China Challenge · 26 March 2007

Epilepsy Action is creating a world without limits for everyone affected by epilepsy, connecting people with others, and providing support and information you can trust. We’re calling out the misunderstanding, prejudice and barriers that stop people with epilepsy living their best life.

Story

The Challenge

This site will be used to track my progress in raising £3500 for the charity following the Great Wall Challenge in October (13-21), which was completed last month by my siter Alice and I. Our eldest sister has had the condition since she was twelve, so it is a charity which we feel very passionate about supporting. The Great Wall Challenge was a fantastic experience and I am very pleased to have raised so much money for charity in doing it.

Photos from the trip can be found through the following links:

Both Alice and I are still collecting sponsorship for the trip, so if you haven't donated yet, but would like to, please use this page to do so or contact me on the email address below.

My Events

The Summer Ceilidh on the 1st June at The Merlin Pub in Morningside was a huge success raising £630 for the cause. If you would like to see the photos from the event, please go to: http://standrews.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2059241&l=978f1&id=37102355.

I'm currently in the process of organising a Pub Quiz (time and date tbc) and back in Wales my parents are helping Alice and I by having a car boot sale. I'm also using my cake-baking skills at work to raise money.

The Charity - Epilepsy Action

Epilepsy Action's vision is "to live in a society where everyone understands epilepsy and where attitudes are based on fact not fiction."

Epilepsy is currently defined as a tendency to have recurrent seizures (sometimes called fits). A seizure is caused by a sudden burst of excess electrical activity in the brain, causing a temporary disruption in the normal message passing between brain cells. This disruption results in the brain’s messages becoming halted or mixed up.

Please do visit Epilepsy Action's site at www.epilepsy.org.uk to see what good works the Charity does.
